Tesla Recalls Nearly 2 Million Vehicles Over Hood Latch Issue
- Tesla has recalled approximately 1.85 million vehicles
- This issue poses a significant safety risk
- The company has faced ongoing scrutiny from regulators
Tesla has announced a recall of approximately 1.85 million vehicles in the United States due to a potential software failure that could prevent the detection of an unlatched hood.
This issue poses a significant safety risk as a fully opened hood can obstruct the driver’s view, increasing the likelihood of a crash.
The recall encompasses Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y vehicles produced between 2020 and 2024. Tesla identified the root cause of the problem as a hood latch produced by Magna Closures Co Ltd. in China.
While the company has reported only three instances of the issue in the U.S. with no related accidents or injuries, a software update has been rolled out to address the problem.
This recall marks Tesla’s largest since December when it recalled nearly all of its U.S. vehicles to rectify issues with its Autopilot system.
The company has faced ongoing scrutiny from regulators, including a recent NHTSA investigation into crashes involving vehicles equipped with the updated Autopilot software.
Tesla’s recent recall comes amidst declining profit margins, highlighting the challenges the electric vehicle giant faces in maintaining sales amid slowing demand.
