The National Food Suppliers Association has announced plans to picket the Ministry of Education due to a seven-month backlog of unpaid debts.
The suppliers claim that the government has failed to settle arrears owed to them, with the overdue payments stretching back seven months. The Association argues that the government’s actions seem deliberately aimed at disrupting the operations of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, which adversely affects the suppliers.
In an interview with the press, Kwaku Amedume, the spokesperson for the National Food Suppliers Association, demanded that the government pay the outstanding amounts in full or face their protest.
“We’ve had deductions made from our payments with no proper explanations. For instance, nearly three thousand cedis have been deducted from my payments alone. Buffer Stock has been making deductions of 3% and 2% among others. Despite writing several letters, we have seen no resolution,” Amedume said.
He announced that a press conference would be held on Monday to further address the issue and confirmed their plans to engage in serious picketing if the payments are not made promptly.
