Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has definitively ruled out any possibility of a debate between his party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In an interview, Asiedu Nketiah stated unequivocally that the NDC has decided against Mahama engaging in any debate with Bawumia.
“The NDC, of which I am the National Chairman, has resolved that President Mahama should not participate in any debate with Bawumia in any form,” he said in Twi.
Asiedu Nketiah clarified that the party’s stance is grounded in the belief that debating with individuals he categorizes as “fools” or “liars” would be fruitless.
“In philosophy, I’ve learned two things that guide my approach to politics: never argue with a fool because onlookers won’t be able to tell the difference, and never argue with a liar because they believe their own lies,” he explained. “It’s like wrestling with a swine in the mud; you’ll just get dirty.”
This statement comes amidst accusations from NPP leaders that Mahama is evading a debate with Bawumia due to fear of being exposed. Bawumia himself expressed eagerness for a debate, claiming Mahama fears his policies will be exposed as hollow.
“I am eager to debate John Mahama on the economy and governance, but he is avoiding it,” Bawumia remarked. “His camp says he doesn’t want to debate because he knows I will reveal the emptiness of his policies.”
