The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, has urged Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to employ innovative methods to raise internally generated funds. This call to action follows a revelation at the Regional Coordinating Council’s inaugural meeting in Accra.

According to the revelation, the council has generated GH¢117 million out of a target of GH¢294 million in internally generated funds as of May. This indicates a significant shortfall in meeting the target.

In an interview with Titus-Glover on the sidelines of the inaugural meeting, he acknowledged that the target has not yet been met. However, he emphasized that MMDCEs should implement innovative strategies to achieve it.

Titus-Glover noted that some MMDCEs are performing well, while others are struggling. He cited Ayawaso East as an example of an area that is not generating enough revenue due to the lack of factories and serious economic activities.

To address this challenge, Titus-Glover suggested that MMDCEs should make revenue generation more manageable. He advised setting moderate targets that people are willing to pay, rather than setting high targets that scare people away.

Titus-Glover emphasized the need for MMDCEs to develop strategies to generate more revenue. He pointed out that some areas, like Shai, have limited economic activities and require innovative approaches to boost revenue generation.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister stressed that MMDCEs must think outside the box to achieve their targets. He encouraged them to explore new ways to generate revenue and make the most of available resources.

Titus-Glover’s call to action is a clear indication that the current approach to revenue generation needs improvement. By employing innovative methods, MMDCEs can unlock new opportunities and achieve their targets.

The success of this initiative will depend on the willingness of MMDCEs to embrace new ideas and work collaboratively to achieve their goals. With the right strategies and mindset, they can make a significant impact on revenue generation in their respective areas.

Titus-Glover’s urging of MMDCEs to employ innovative methods to raise internally generated funds is a timely call to action. By rising to this challenge, MMDCEs can make a meaningful contribution to the development of their areas and the region as a whole.
