Former South African President Jacob Zuma is scheduled to face a disciplinary hearing with the African National Congress (ANC) party, which may result in his expulsion.

Zuma, 82, has been a member of the ANC since the late 1950s but has been at odds with the party since his forced resignation as president in 2018 amid corruption allegations.

He has been leading the newly formed MK Party, which gained 14% of the national vote in the recent elections, leading to the ANC losing its majority.

Zuma’s hearing may be held in person or virtually, depending on the ANC’s decision. If expelled, Zuma will be unable to retain his ANC membership.

Despite facing legal battles, Zuma remains popular in parts of the country, and his party will become the official opposition in Parliament.
