Inflation Rate Drops to 22.8% in June, a 0.3% Decrease from May

Data released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), shows that the country’s inflation rate for June 2024 has decreased to 22.8%, representing a 0.3 percentage point drop from the 23.1% recorded in May 2024.

The month-on-month rate for June also saw a decrease, recording 2.9%. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) data revealed that food and non-food inflation stood at 24.0% and 21.6%, respectively.

At a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Government Statistician Professor Samuel Kobina Anim explained that the year-on-year inflation rate for June 2024 signalled a 22.8% increase in the prices of goods and services between June 2023 and June 2024.

“This rate of inflation indicates a slowdown by 0.3 percentage points on a month-on-month basis, as the rate for May 2024 stood at 23.1%,” Prof. Anim noted.

He further revealed that the Upper East region recorded the highest inflation rate of 35.20%, while the Oti region recorded the lowest rate of 12.5%.
