Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX and Tesla, has spoken out against mail-in voting, urging instead for manual paper ballots and in-person voting for the November election in the United States.
Musk took to his social media platform, X, to express his concerns about the risks of electronic voting machines and mail-in ballots, suggesting that they could lead to large-scale fraud. “We should mandate paper ballots and in-person voting only,” he wrote.
This comes as President Joe Biden announced his intention to veto a bill aimed at preventing non-Americans from voting in the upcoming election. Biden argued that the bill is based on “easily disproven falsehoods” and would make it harder for eligible Americans to register to vote.
House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson responded by accusing President Biden of opening the borders to “9 million illegals” to vote in the election. Elon Musk, who frequently retweets and comments positively on tweets from Republican politicians, has not yet responded to Johnson’s statement.
The debate around mail-in voting and election security continues to be a contentious issue in the lead-up to the November election.
