Coach Appiah Wishes For Ghana-Sudan Duet At AFCON
- Appiah expressed optimism for both nations
- He previously led the Black Stars in two separate stints
- He is finding success against his former team
Sudan’s head coach Kwasi Appiah has a unique wish for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The draw placed Sudan in Group E alongside Appiah’s native Ghana, marking his return to coach against his former team.
Despite the competitive nature of the matchup, Appiah expressed optimism for both nations. Following the draw, he told 3 Sports, “There are no easy teams in football anymore,” emphasizing the importance of preparation for every opponent.
However, Appiah went a step further, revealing a personal hope to see both Ghana and Sudan qualify for the tournament in Morocco. “Personally, I also think and hope Ghana and Sudan qualify in that group,” he said, offering his best wishes to both teams.
This sentiment is particularly interesting given Appiah’s coaching history with Ghana.
He previously led the Black Stars in two separate stints, from 2012 to 2014 and again from 2017 to 2019. Now, he finds himself aiming for success against his former team while building a strong Sudan squad, currently leading their 2026 World Cup qualifying group.
