The Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) 2024 will focus on celebrating the achievements of local initiatives driving the nation’s energy sector forward. This theme was unveiled at the recent launch of the 8th edition in Accra.

Organizers, the Energy Media Group (EMG), are accepting nominations until August 30th, 2024. Endorsed by the Ministry of Energy and the World Energy Council, Ghana, the GEA has recognized industry leaders since its inception in 2017.

Deputy Energy Minister John Sanie highlighted the awards’ role in promoting excellence and innovation. “By acknowledging the contributions of companies, institutions, and individuals,” he said, “the GEA inspires progress and pushes the industry towards global standards.”

Henry Teinor, CEO of EMG and Event Director, emphasized the importance of energy to Ghana’s economy. “The GEA aims to keep this vital sector thriving by celebrating achievements and innovation.”

The theme, “The Role of Local Content in Building the Energy Sector,” was lauded by Lawyer Kwame Jantuah, chairman of the awarding panel. He stressed the critical role of local participation across all aspects of the energy sector. “Local involvement fuels economic growth, empowers our workforce, and secures a prosperous energy future built by Ghanaians,” he stated, underlining the awards’ commitment to showcasing Ghanaian ingenuity.

Jantuah acknowledged the nation’s commitment to transforming the energy sector through robust local content policies. The government is actively streamlining regulations to create a more supportive environment for Ghanaian businesses to flourish and compete effectively.

“These policies collectively aim to build local capacity, enhance Ghanaian workforce skills, and ensure the nation’s energy resources contribute more significantly to economic development,” he explained. “They guarantee a substantial portion of energy sector activities are conducted by Ghanaians.”

The 2024 GEA boasts 25 competitive categories and four non-competitive ones. New categories aligned with the theme include Local Content Impact Leadership Award, Local Content Torchbearer Excellence Award, Local Content Legacy Achievement Award, Local Content Partnership of the Year, and Outstanding Local Content Initiative of the Year.
