- Appointment aims to ensure smooth transition at Energy Ministry
President Nana Akufo-Addo has requested that Parliament expedite the confirmation of Deputy Energy Minister Herbert Krapah as a Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy. This appointment comes as the current Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, is set to be confirmed as the running mate to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a letter to Parliament, President Akufo-Addo stated, “In view of the exceptionally heavy workload now attendant at the ministry, it has become necessary to appoint a Minister of State at the Ministry in the person of Honourable Herbert Krapah, who is currently a deputy minister.”
The President’s request was read to the House by the Speaker of Parliament on Wednesday, July 3. Dr. Bawumia has already informed the NPP’s national officers of his decision to choose Dr. Opoku Prempeh as his running mate, and the nomination is awaiting approval by the party’s National Council, which is scheduled to meet on Thursday, July 4.
The appointment of Herbert Krapah as Minister of State is seen as a move to ensure a smooth transition at the Energy Ministry once Dr. Opoku Prempeh is confirmed as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate.
