Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, has called upon the armed forces to maintain strict political impartiality in the lead-up to the December 2024 elections.
Speaking at the Republic Day lecture hosted by the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Nitiwul underscored the military’s primary duty to safeguard the nation’s integrity.
During his address, Nitiwul emphasized the critical role of the military in upholding democracy and cautioned against any partisan engagements.
He described the armed forces as “the last bastion of our country’s hope,” stressing the severe consequences if they were perceived as aligning with any political faction, which could potentially undermine democratic foundations.
The lecture, featuring speakers such as former National Security Minister Mr. Francis Poku and Prof. Kwasi Aning, highlighted the essentiality of military neutrality in preserving national security and stability.
Madam Josephine Nkrumah and other distinguished guests echoed Nitiwul’s sentiments, advocating for the military’s independence from political influences to effectively fulfill its responsibilities.
This event marks the inauguration of a series of public lectures by the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, aimed at fostering discussions on critical national security issues in the upcoming months.
