Chelsea Eyes Strike Force Reinforcements: David Or Guiu?

Story Highlights
  • Chelsea's hunt for a new striker continues
  • The Blue have attempted to acquire Jhon Duran
  • Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Guiu

Chelsea’s hunt for a new striker continues, with discussions underway regarding Lille’s Jonathan David and Barcelona youngster Marc Guiu.

The Blues, under new manager Enzo Maresca, have already seen attempts to acquire Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran (swap deal) and Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion (£34m bid rejected) fall through.

David, a 24-year-old currently competing in the Copa America with Canada, is a more affordable option due to entering the final year of his Lille contract. However, he faces competition from Manchester United, Tottenham, and West Ham.

Chelsea are also keeping tabs on 18-year-old Guiu, whose Barcelona contract includes a £5m release clause and expires next summer. While Guiu has managed two goals in six appearances for Barcelona, he’s also in negotiations for a contract extension.

This striker search comes after Chelsea missed out on their primary winger target, Michael Olise, who opted for Bayern Munich due to disagreements over wages and playing role.

In other transfer news, Chelsea secured a £37.5m deal for defender Ian Maatsen joining Aston Villa. Midfielder Omari Kellyman is set to move in the opposite direction for £19m.
