Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Senior Presidential Adviser, emphasized that Ghana’s progress cannot depend solely on its natural resources.
He highlighted the importance of virtues like good character and patriotism in the nation’s development. Mr. Osafo-Maafo pointed out that many countries lacking abundant resources excel due to discipline and strong work ethics.
Addressing attendees at “The Pledge; Making the National Pledge a National Reality,” organized by the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade of the Freeman Methodist Church in Kwesimintsim, Mr. Osafo-Maafo expressed concern over behaviors such as cocoa smuggling and inefficiencies during rainy days in Ghana.
He contrasted this with practices in countries like Germany, where challenges prompt increased effort to overcome them.
Mr. Osafo-Maafo urged Ghanaians to discard colonial-era mindsets about state institutions and adopt a proactive approach to national advancement.
He stressed the importance of teaching the National Pledge effectively to instill its values in the youth, urging churches to promote a culture of excellence.
Other speakers echoed these sentiments, advocating for integrity, sovereignty, and civic responsibility as crucial elements for Ghana’s future. They criticized societal problems such as corruption and called for a revival of national values to safeguard the country’s heritage.
