Spanish tennis legends Rafael Nadal and rising star Carlos Alcaraz will join forces as doubles partners at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
The clay court competition will be held at Roland Garros, where Alcaraz just triumphed last week, clinching his third Grand Slam title.
Nadal, a veteran at 38 years old, boasts an impressive 22 major wins, including a record-breaking 14 championships at Roland Garros itself.
The Olympic Games kick off on July 26th with the tennis matches starting a day later.
Spain’s national coach, David Ferrer, confirmed the exciting doubles pair stating, “One pair, which I think everyone knows and was hoping for, is Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal. Rafa and Carlos will be playing together in Paris.”
This will be Alcaraz’s Olympic debut, while Nadal secured a gold medal back in 2008 at Beijing.
Nadal’s participation was up in the air due to injuries this year, but he made a strong comeback on the clay courts in April.
These Games are likely to be his last, as the Spaniard contemplates retirement this season.
