Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama has pledged to establish a dedicated television channel for the creative arts industry, providing a vital platform for artists to showcase their talents and earn revenue.
Addressing a policy dialogue with creative arts industry stakeholders in Accra, Mahama emphasized the importance of the industry, noting that it has the potential to create millions of jobs for young people. He highlighted the success of creatives in other parts of the world and expressed his commitment to replicating this in Ghana.
The proposed TV channel, which will be available on digital terrestrial television, will feature a range of creative events, including performances by renowned artists like Stonebwoy and Amandzeba. Viewers will be able to access the content by purchasing an electronic code, providing a new revenue stream for creatives.
Mahama also outlined additional strategies to support the industry, including the allocation of budget resources, renovation of Centers of Arts and Culture, streamlining of copyright laws, organization of festivals and exhibitions, and establishment of a film village.
This initiative is expected to revolutionize the creative arts industry in Ghana, providing opportunities for young talents to shine and contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth.
