The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Effutu constituency in the Central region has denied allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding vote transfer.
The NDC alleged that Majority Leader and incumbent MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin had brought in 71 soldiers from outside the constituency to transfer their votes to the area, a claim the NPP has vehemently denied.
According to the NDC, the NPP was busing people from outside Effutu to transfer votes and create chaos during the exercise, a claim the NPP has described as baseless and without evidence. The NPP has challenged the NDC to provide evidence to support their claims, which they say is a grand scheme to destabilize the vote transfer process and intimidate potential voters.
At a press conference, NPP Communications Officer Ellis Otabil stated that only indigenous people, students, and transferred workers are transferring their votes to Effutu. Otabil emphasized that these individuals have legitimate reasons for transferring their votes and are not being bused in from outside the constituency as the NDC has alleged.
He explained that many of these individuals are natives of Effutu who have returned to their hometown to exercise their democratic right to vote. Otabil warned the NDC against intimidating voters, emphasizing that the NPP will stand up for what is right and ensure that the vote transfer process is carried out peacefully and democratically.
He alleged that the NDC has a grand scheme to intimidate would-be voters in the Central Region, and that the NPP will not allow such tactics to succeed in Effutu. The NPP is adamant that they will not be distracted by the NDC’s alleged intimidation tactics and will continue to work towards a peaceful and democratic vote transfer process.
