A-G Rebukes Jakpa’s Request in Ambulance Trial as Baseless and Troublesome
- A-G has dismissed Jakpa's attempt to derail the case
- Attorney-General underscores the transparency of the prosecution
- Attorney-General maintains the professionalism of the prosecution
In the ongoing trial involving Dr. Ato Forson and another individual, the Attorney-General has firmly opposed a motion put forth by Richard Jakpa, an accused party, seeking to dismiss the charges or halt the proceedings.
The Attorney-General labeled Jakpa’s application as an abuse of the legal process and lacking in merit.
According to the Attorney-General’s affidavit opposing the motion, Jakpa failed to provide sufficient grounds justifying the requested relief, which the AG deemed as unconventional within Ghana’s criminal legal framework.
The AG asserted that Jakpa’s move appeared rushed and desperate, aiming to evade legitimate prosecution for his alleged involvement in financial misconduct related to the procurement of purported ambulances.
The AG criticized the application as an attempt to shield Jakpa from accountability through manipulative tactics and misinformation, which he deemed incompatible and offensive to Ghanaian law.
Furthermore, the AG accused Jakpa of engaging in a public spectacle to undermine the integrity of the trial proceedings, despite the prosecution’s adherence to professionalism. The AG emphasized that the case against the accused individuals stemmed from thorough investigations and credible evidence presented in court.
In response to Jakpa’s allegations, the AG highlighted the transparent nature of the prosecution, including the disclosure of evidence to all parties involved.
He dismissed Jakpa’s assertions as unsubstantiated and intended to sow doubt about the court’s ability to deliver justice.
Concluding his opposition, the AG condemned Jakpa’s application as frivolous, vexatious, and an unnecessary burden on the court’s resources.
