- The new boss will begin on July 1st.
Premier League giants Chelsea have named Enzo Maresca as their new manager.
The 44-year-old Italian joins the Blues on a five-year deal with the option for an additional year, replacing Mauricio Pochettino who departed by mutual consent in May.
Maresca arrives at Stamford Bridge following a successful stint at Leicester City. He took charge of the Foxes in June 2023 and guided them to the Championship title in his first season.
Delighted by the opportunity, Maresca said: “Joining Chelsea is a dream for any coach. I’m excited to work with this talented group and build a team that continues the club’s winning tradition.”
Maresca becomes Chelsea’s sixth permanent manager in five years. The Blues endured an inconsistent 2023-24 season but finished strong, securing a Europa Conference League spot through a late surge.
Several managers were considered for the role, including Roberto de Zerbi, Kieran McKenna, and Thomas Frank. However, Maresca impressed the Chelsea board with his vision and work ethic.
The new boss will begin on July 1st. Chelsea players not on international duty will return for pre-season training under Maresca on July 4th before embarking on a US tour.
Maresca will be joined by his coaching staff from Leicester, including former Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
