Police Arrest Man in Tamale with Illegal Firearms and Ammunition
The Ghana Police Service has apprehended Imarana Abdulai Gomda in Tamale, Northern Region, for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, in a move aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal weapons in the region.
According to a police social media post on Friday, May 31, Gomda was arrested at the Datoyili Barrier in Tamale on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, following a tip-off from the public. The police, acting on intelligence gathered, swooped in on the suspect and recovered two SMG rifles, six rounds of 9MM ammunition, and two empty magazines from his possession.
The suspect, who was found to be in possession of the firearms without lawful authority, is currently in police custody and is assisting the Police with their investigations into the matter. The police are probing the source of the weapons and the suspect’s intentions, as well as possible links to other criminal activities.
The police have commended the public for their vigilance and cooperation, which led to the successful arrest. “We appreciate the support of the community in this matter,” said a police spokesperson. “Their tips and information are crucial in our efforts to keep our communities safe.”
