Gunshots fired at Sagnarigu Constituency during Voter Registration
A violent disturbance broke out at a voters’ registration center in the Sagnarigu constituency of the Northern Region on Sunday, with gunshots ringing out and political parties trading accusations.
The incident occurred when a vehicle arrived at the registration center, carrying individuals seeking to register for their voter cards. An argument ensued over the new arrivals, and unidentified gunmen suddenly stormed the center, firing shots.
Abdallah A. Baba, Northern Regional Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), alleged that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was responsible for the attack. According to Baba, NDC members had gathered peacefully at the center when armed men emerged from nearby bushes and began firing. He claimed that the gunmen were linked to the NPP, citing reports of an NPP meeting the previous day to plan disruptions.
However, Alhaji Musah Fuseini Dangoomah, NPP Chairman for the Sagnarigu constituency, vehemently denied the allegations. He countered that the gunmen were, in fact, from the NDC, and asserted that the NPP is committed to a peaceful registration process. Dangoomah dismissed the accusations as false.
The incident has heightened tensions in the region, with both parties trading blame and accusations. An investigation is underway to determine the truth behind the violence.
