The Ghana Police Service has made a significant decision to withdraw its injunction application seeking to halt the Yvonne Nelson-led demonstration against erratic power supply, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor’. This development comes after the organizers of the protest submitted a revised plan to the police, addressing the initial concerns raised by the officers.

The original plan was to hold the demonstration on May 25, 2024, but the organizers have now rescheduled it for June 8, 2024, at 2:00 pm, and changed the location to the University of Ghana. This change was confirmed in a new letter sent by the organizers to the Accra Regional Police Command.

The Police had initially filed for an injunction at the High Court to prevent the demonstration, citing security and logistical concerns. They had also suggested that the organizers consider an alternative venue, which the organizers have now done.

The revised plan appears to have mitigated the concerns raised by the Police, leading to the withdrawal of the legal action. This means that the organizers of the protest can now go ahead with the demonstration, barring any further intervention from the Police.

The Police, in accordance with the dictates of the Public Order Act, had filed an instant application to halt the demonstration. However, with the withdrawal of the injunction application, the protest can now proceed as planned.

The case was heard on May 24, 2024, and the withdrawal of the injunction application is a significant development in the matter. It indicates that the Police are willing to work with the organizers to ensure a peaceful and successful demonstration.

The demonstration is being organized to protest against the erratic power supply in Ghana, which has caused inconvenience and hardship to many citizens. The organizers, led by Yvonne Nelson, are calling for urgent action to address the issue.

The protest has received widespread support from Ghanaians, who are eager to see an end to the power outages. The revised plan and the withdrawal of the injunction application are seen as positive developments, indicating that the protest can now go ahead without any legal hurdles.

The organizers have assured the Police and the public that the demonstration will be peaceful and orderly, and that they will work to ensure that there are no disruptions to public order.

With the withdrawal of the injunction application, the stage is now set for a successful and peaceful demonstration on June 8, 2024, at the University of Ghana. The organizers and the Police will work together to ensure that the protest is carried out without any incidents.
