Wa-Kumasi road to be rehabilitated before 2024 election – Bawumia
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to significantly improve the Wa-Kumasi highway before the December 2024 general election. He made this promise during a meeting with the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs as part of his campaign tour of the region.
“I want to see a dramatic improvement, not just coal tar, but asphalt all the way,” Dr. Bawumia stated, emphasizing his commitment to upgrading the road. This promise comes after the President of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, Naa Dikomwine Domalae, requested the rehabilitation of the Wa-Bamboi-Kumasi highway, which is in a deplorable state.
The Vice President assured the gathering of chiefs and queen mothers that he was determined to get the road constructed before the election, saying, “I don’t want to say, vote for me and I will make it happen. I want it to be done so that you will see that it is done before we even get to the election.”
Dr. Bawumia also mentioned other critical roads in the region that need attention, including the Sabuli-Hain-Tumu and Kajekperi-Tumu roads. He noted that the current NPP-led government has completed 531 projects in the region and that he has many ideas to develop the region further if elected President.
The leader of the NPP appealed to the Chiefs for their support and prayers on his journey to the Jubilee House, enabling him to implement his ideas for the betterment of the people. Naa Alhaji Seidu Tungbani Salimbile II, the Paramount Chief of the Dorimon Traditional Area, urged the two leading presidential candidates to avoid politics of insults and focus on issues-based campaigns.
During the tour, Dr. Bawumia also interacted with traders at the Wa central market and the youth in Wa, emphasizing his commitment to the region’s development.
