Parliamentary Committee Identifies Dialysis Price Hike as Error
- Dialysis price hike at Korle-Bu declared an error
- Corrective measures to be taken to reverse the increase
- Parliamentary committee seeks affordable solution for patients
The Subsidiary Legislation Committee in Parliament has deemed the recent increase in the price of dialysis treatment at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital as an error.
The cost of a single dialysis session had surged from GH¢380 to GH¢491, sparking concerns among patients who feared essential care would become unaffordable.
Chairman of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee, Dr. Dominic Ayeni, confirmed the price increment was a mistake and assured corrective measures would be taken. “I told them that there were a lot of errors. Time had run out on us, and therefore they should bring an addendum for us to correct the errors, including this issue of dialysis,” he stated.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, referred the matter to the Subsidiary Legislation Committee for stakeholder engagement to find a solution. The Speaker believes an amicable solution can be reached through engagement with relevant agencies.
