“Brazil to Host 2027 Women’s World Cup”
- Brazil won with 119 votes, beating joint bid by Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany
- First South American nation to host the tournament
- Tournament to maintain 32-team format, with Brazil aiming for first-ever title
FIFA has officially awarded Brazil the hosting rights for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, a historic milestone marking the first time a South American nation will host the prestigious tournament.
The decision was made following an open vote at FIFA’s congress in Bangkok, where Brazil secured 119 votes, surpassing the joint bid by Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany (BNG) with 78 votes.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino congratulated Brazil on their successful bid, stating, “Congratulations to Brazil. We will have the best World Cup in Brazil. Many thanks as well to the BNG bid, who have been fantastic.”
Both bids were deemed technically sound according to FIFA’s evaluation report, which assessed factors such as stadium infrastructure, accommodation, fan zones, and transportation.
Ultimately, Brazil scored higher in these technical aspects, leading to their selection as the host nation.
This upcoming tournament will maintain the 32-team format introduced in the 2023 edition hosted by Australia and New Zealand, where Spain emerged victorious by defeating England in the final.
Brazil, known as the “Female Canaries,” will be aiming to capture their first-ever Women’s World Cup title on home soil, leveraging the advantage of hosting.
However, they will do so without their legendary goal scorer Marta, who recently announced her retirement from international football.
Previously, Brazil has hosted the men’s World Cup in 1950 and 2014, and now eagerly prepares to showcase its capabilities in organizing a major global football event for women.
The 2027 Women’s World Cup promises to be a landmark event in the history of women’s football, with the South American country poised to deliver a memorable tournament experience for players and fans alike.
