The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has taken steps to improve power supply in the Western Region by installing 20 new transformers.

Upgrading the Grid for Efficiency

Ing. Emmanuel Justice Ofori, the Western Region General Manager for ECG, highlighted the importance of transformers in ensuring safe and efficient electricity distribution.

He emphasized the need for regular assessments to identify areas requiring additional transformers to prevent overloading and resulting issues like localized faults and low voltage.

Addressing Specific Needs

ECG’s regional team identified specific areas experiencing transformer overload and implemented strategic injections to address these concerns. These new transformers will improve voltage stability and minimize the frequency of power outages in various communities.

Project Scope and Beneficiaries

Ing. Yaw Sarfo, the Regional Engineer, explained that nine out of eleven districts in the Western Region will benefit from this project. He listed specific towns that will see improvements, including Ampiam, Kansaworodo, Atuabo, Wassa Akropong, Sefwi Wiawso, Bogoso, Sekondi, Nyamekyekrom, Krobo, Komfueku, Inchaban, and Nkwanta.

Enhanced Capacity and Reduced Outages

The newly installed transformers, primarily rated at 200kVA each, will significantly reduce the load on existing transformers. This will translate to fewer localized power outages within these communities.

Looking Ahead

This project is part of ECG’s ongoing efforts to enhance customer service in the Western Region. They are committed to implementing further initiatives to ensure a reliable and stable electricity supply for the region’s residents and businesses.
