Thomas Partey granted Conditional Bail

Former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after being formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Partey appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, over alleged incidents said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022 while he was playing for Arsenal.

The charges come shortly after his departure from the Premier League club, following the expiration of his contract.

An investigation was initially launched by the Metropolitan Police in February 2022, after a report of rape was filed.

Partey, through his legal representative Jenny Wiltshire, has denied all allegations. Wiltshire reiterated that the footballer “denies all the charges” and “looks forward to clearing his name.”

The case has now been transferred to the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey), where Partey is scheduled to appear again on September 2.

In the meantime, media reports from Spain indicate the 31-year-old is close to finalising a move to La Liga side Villarreal.
