Armed security forces have been stationed at the Manhyia Palace following a wave of violent incidents in the Asawase area, including the recent assassination of the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Abdul‑Malik Azenbe.
The deployment aims to protect the palace and surrounding areas amid rising fears of escalating unrest.
The move follows a string of violent attacks, including two fatal shootings within days. The Kusasi Chief was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday, July 23, sparking widespread fear. Just two days later, on Friday, July 25, another unidentified man was killed under similar circumstances, intensifying public concern.
In response, the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has introduced firm security measures. These include a curfew on motorbike use after 7:00 p.m. in Asawase and surrounding communities. The ban also covers unregistered motorcycles, mopeds without lights, and smock-wearing, citing security concerns over their potential use to conceal weapons.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who issued the directive, stated that these actions are critical to restoring peace and preventing further violence.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing, and authorities are urging residents to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
