Government to Rebuild Destroyed Bawku Naba Statue

Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has announced the government’s commitment to rebuild the Bawku Naba statue, which was vandalized on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Dr. Boamah made the statement during a durbar with officers, soldiers, and civilian staff of Garrisons 1 and 5 at Burma Camp on Wednesday, July 16. He strongly condemned the act, calling it “regrettable and unacceptable.”
In a Facebook post shared on Thursday, July 17, he reiterated his position:
“I condemn the destruction of the cherished Bawku Naba statue. I assured that government will rebuild it and expects appropriate sanctions for those responsible.”
Dr. Boamah emphasized that the Ministry of Defence is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to support the security services to maintain law and order in the area.
He also condemned the recent shooting of two soldiers in Bawku, describing it as a serious and troubling incident that demands swift action.
“The Ghana Armed Forces remain committed to safeguarding lives and ensuring order across the country,” he stated.
The Minister called for unity and cooperation between the military, traditional leaders, and local communities to restore peace and preserve cultural heritage.
“Let us come together to uphold peace, protect our traditions, and reinforce the unity that binds our nation,” Dr. Boamah urged.
