Ghanaian actor and comedian Kalybos has revealed that a small, heartfelt gesture he made nearly a decade ago led to an unexpected reward — a cheque worth GH₵100,000.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with arts and culture journalist Kwame Dadzie, Kalybos — real name Richard Asante — recounted the 2016 incident that took place in heavy traffic on the Osu road.

“I was caught in traffic when a car pulled up next to me. I noticed it was a man with his children who had recognised me. They were clearly excited and wanted a photo, but the father said they couldn’t stop because of the traffic,” he recalled.

Sensing the moment meant a lot to the kids, Kalybos stepped out of his car and asked if he could sit in the backseat of the family’s vehicle to take the photos. The father was stunned by the comedian’s humility and asked for his contact information.

Weeks later, the man reached out and invited Kalybos to his office. During their meeting, he revealed how moved he was by the gesture — especially because his children had previously been snubbed by a popular actress at a mall when they asked for a photo.

“After chatting for a bit, he handed me an envelope. Something told me to open it — and when I did, it was a cheque,” Kalybos said.
“The amount? The biggest free bono money I’ve ever received: GH₵100,000.”

Kalybos used the money to purchase his second car, and said the experience reminded him of the unexpected blessings that can come from simply being kind.

Widely known for his breakout role in the comedy series “Boys Kasa” alongside Ahoufe Patri, Kalybos has since starred in numerous Ghanaian films, including Kalybos in China, Amakye and Dede, and John and John. He has also featured in several brand campaigns, making him one of Ghana’s most prominent comedic talents of the past decade.
