Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rally around a shared vision as the party looks ahead to the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at the NPP Constituency Chairmen Caucus Conference held on Saturday, June 21, in Kumasi, Dr. Acheampong delivered a direct and assertive message regarding his political ambitions.

“I’m not here to test the waters. I’m here for power,” he stated, receiving enthusiastic applause from attendees.

His speech marked a clear declaration of intent, with a campaign focused on returning the NPP to power. Dr. Acheampong reflected on his longstanding involvement in the party—from grassroots organizing to serving in Parliament and the Cabinet—and said his experience positioned him to lead the NPP into a new chapter.

“This is bigger than Bryan,” one constituency chairman remarked. “It’s about building a stronger, united party.”

Although the official race for the NPP flagbearer is still months away, Dr. Acheampong’s confident entry into the leadership conversation signals the beginning of what could be a competitive and pivotal campaign. His emphasis on unity and winning in 2028 was central to his message.

The NPP is set to choose its flagbearer on January 31, 2026, ahead of the next general elections. Other prominent figures who have expressed interest include former Education Minister and Bosomtwe MP Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.
