BECE Candidates Detained Over Fees

The Headmaster of Big Six Educational Complex in Meduma, located in the Ashanti Region, has been granted bail after his arrest for detaining two candidates scheduled to take part in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The students missed their Mathematics paper on Monday, June 16, 2025, after being locked up due to unpaid fees and their failure to attend a pre-exam camp.

They were supposed to write the exam at Simms High School in Fawoade, within the Kwabre East Municipality, but were unable to join their peers.

The headmaster was arrested on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, following widespread reports of the incident.

In response, the Ghana Police Service has launched a formal investigation, and the Kwabre East Municipal Education Directorate has begun a separate inquiry to uncover the full details of the case.
