- Royal Visit Scheduled for June 24–28
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced a city-wide clean-up exercise scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025, in anticipation of a high-profile royal visit. This initiative is in preparation for the arrival of His Majesty King Mswati III of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), who is expected in Kumasi from June 24 to June 28, 2025.
According to a statement released by the KMA’s Public Relations Unit, the clean-up exercise is a collaborative effort to ensure that Kumasi presents a spotless and dignified environment to welcome the distinguished guest. The royal visit is also to include engagements with His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.
To facilitate the clean-up, all shops and commercial entities in the Central Business Districts (CBDs) are mandated to close temporarily between 6:00 AM and 12:00 noon on the day of the exercise. This directive is aimed at enabling smooth participation and ensuring compliance across the city.
The KMA is calling on all residents, businesses, and stakeholders to support the initiative and actively participate in the clean-up exercise.
“We invite the good people of Kumasi to join hands in making this exercise a success. Together, we can showcase our hospitality, culture, and pride in our clean city,” the release concluded.
The visit of King Mswati III is regarded as a significant diplomatic and cultural event, reflecting the strong ties between the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Ashanti Kingdom.
