School Feeding Conflict Resolved Peacefully in Ashanti Region

- GSFP resolves Ashanti caterer dispute through stakeholder dialogue
- Deputy NDC Secretary, Regional Minister, and MMDCEs led talks
- Parties commit to better communication and transparency ahead
The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has confirmed the peaceful resolution of a recent conflict involving catering contract allocations in the Ashanti Region. The dispute, which had sparked tension and threats of physical confrontations among caterers, was addressed through a high-level stakeholder meeting held in Kumasi.
According to a statement released on June 17, 2025, the resolution process was spearheaded by a team of national and regional leaders. Key figures present included Hajiah Fati, National Coordinator of the GSFP; Hon. Barbara Asamoah, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC; Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene; and several Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
During the meeting, stakeholders acknowledged that much of the tension had stemmed from unclear expectations and communication breakdowns at the start of the contract allocation process. With all parties given the opportunity to share their perspectives, the discussions were described as open, constructive, and focused on long-term cooperation.
Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene, in a Facebook post following the meeting, highlighted the significance of the dialogue. “We held frank and solution-driven discussions aimed at fostering transparency, fairness, and unity. I’m glad to note that the engagements were fruitful,” he wrote. He also praised the collaborative efforts of the GSFP leadership and other regional stakeholders in restoring calm and trust.
The GSFP has since reported that all parties have committed to improving communication and cooperation moving forward. The resolution sets a positive precedent for addressing grassroots concerns in national social intervention programmes through dialogue and inclusive leadership.
