GRNMA Accuses Government of Propaganda Over Nurses’ Conditions of Service

- GRNMA’s Greater Accra Chair accuses government of prioritizing propaganda over resolving strike
- Nurses demand essential tools and improved conditions, not luxury
- Government accused of bad faith and poor communication
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Jefferson Asare, has criticised the government for focusing on propaganda rather than addressing the real concerns of striking nurses.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Asare said the government has acted in bad faith by misrepresenting the situation in the media instead of constructively engaging with the association.
“We’ve revised our position three times, yet the government continues to ignore us and push propaganda. That only worsens the crisis,” he stated.
He warned that the real impact is being felt across the country:
“They may win the media narrative, but the truth is evident at Komfo Anokye, Korle Bu, Ridge, and Walewale—places where Ghanaians can’t get the healthcare they need.”
Mr. Asare stressed that the nurses’ demands are not extravagant but rather fundamental requirements necessary for them to do their jobs effectively.
The GRNMA began its strike on Tuesday, June 4, halting operations in over 300 public hospitals and clinics across all 16 regions. The industrial action has left thousands of patients stranded, with emergency services reduced and scheduled surgeries indefinitely suspended.
