Inmates from Kumasi Central Prisons sit for 2025 BECE

- Five inmates, aged 20–25, from Kumasi Central Prisons are participating in the 2025 BECE
- Exams are being written at the Bantama Centre as part of prison reformation efforts
- Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi visited candidates, promising to fund WASSCE fees for inmates
As part of its ongoing reformation efforts, Kumasi Central Prisons has presented five male inmates to sit for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which began on Wednesday, June 11. The candidates, aged between 20 and 25, are taking their exams at the Bantama Examination Centre.
Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, visited various BECE centers and met with the inmates, commending their determination and encouraging them to stay committed to their education. He also pledged financial support for their future WASSCE registration fees.

“I’m pleased to see these inmates writing the BECE—it represents hope and a fresh start,” he stated.
As part of his tour, the MCE also visited the Opoku Ware School Centre in Nhyiaeso Constituency, Adventist SHS and Asanteman SHS centres in Bantama, and Serwaa Nyarko SHS Centre in Manhyia North.
During his visits, Mr. Boadi advised all candidates to avoid exam malpractice and remain focused.
“Your future begins today. Take this opportunity seriously—it’s the foundation of your destiny,” he urged.
A total of 120,285 students are taking part in the BECE across 432 centres in the Ashanti Region, contributing to the national total of over 600,000 candidates.
