The Amaniampong Silver Stool Palace in Asante Mampong has become the focal point of cultural attention as the Asantehene leads the final burial rites for the late Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

The late traditional ruler’s body lies in state, allowing chiefs, family members, and the public to pay their last respects during a solemn and reflective period. Known in Akan tradition as ‘Dɔte Yie’, the burial rites are marked by mourning, with attendees clad in black and red participating in various cultural and ceremonial activities.

Traditional priests have drawn attention with their symbolic rituals, processions, and performances—adding a spiritual and dignified tone to the tributes being paid.

Dignitaries and mourners continue to arrive in Mampong, including members of the National House of Chiefs, Asante royals, political leaders, celebrities, and representatives from various institutions and groups. A special royal delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini also took part in the pre-burial rites.

Receiving guests are the Mamponghemaa, other prominent chiefs, and the late Mamponghene’s widow, Mrs. Janet Dorothy Gyima Kesse.

As part of the tributes, members of the legal profession staged a symbolic mock court session on Sunday, honouring Daasebre Osei Bonsu II for his significant contributions to the legal field.

In addition to his royal duties, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II was a respected academic and administrator. He notably served as Registrar of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) from 1991 until his retirement in 2000, capping a distinguished 28-year career in academia.
