Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has shared how intense online trolling nearly pushed her out of the music industry.

Speaking on the Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Shopsydoo, Wendy described herself as “the most bullied artiste in Ghana,” revealing that many critics accused her of mimicking the late Ebony Reigns when she started her career.

“The trolling became so unbearable that my mother asked me to leave music and come back to Germany,” she said. “It didn’t just affect me—it impacted my whole family. Some relatives even felt embarrassed to be associated with me.”

Wendy recounted the extent of the mockery, saying, “People edited my photos to make me look old and ridiculed me. They claimed I had no talent. It was brutal. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. But it made me stronger.”

Despite the harsh criticism, she said she remained motivated by those who supported her and believed in her talent. Wendy has since gone on to win multiple awards, including at the 3Music Awards and Ghana Music Awards.

Her latest single, It’s Too Late, is receiving widespread airplay and has climbed global music charts.
