A 42-year-old trader, Adam Zakaria, has appeared before the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly injuring a carpenter by thrusting his walking stick into the man’s left eye during a dispute.

According to the prosecution, Zakaria had paid GH¢200 to the carpenter, Eric Djan, in October 2024 to repair a leaking roof. However, Djan allegedly failed to complete the work. On January 20, 2025, Zakaria confronted Djan near Danquah Roundabout in Osu over the delay.

Djan reportedly explained that illness had prevented him from finishing the job, but the exchange escalated into a heated argument. During the confrontation, Zakaria allegedly jabbed Djan in the left eye with his walking stick.

The carpenter, who was bleeding heavily, was rushed to the Police Hospital. Medical examinations revealed blurred vision, and doctors recommended surgery.

Zakaria, who has been charged with causing harm, pleaded not guilty. Presiding Judge Isaac Addo granted him bail of GH¢50,000 with two sureties and instructed the prosecution to comply with disclosure requirements.

He was arrested on May 8, 2025.
