GHA Condemns Theft of Reinforcement Bars at Tantra Hill Underpass

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has strongly denounced the unlawful removal of steel reinforcements from the retaining wall at the Tantra Hill underpass, located along the Achimota-Ofankor section of the N6 highway.

In a public statement released on May 14, 2025, the GHA—on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways—addressed a viral video shared by the Buzzstopboys, which showed exposed steel bars at the site.

The Authority explained that a previous engineering inspection had identified localized spalling on the wall, which led to the exposure of the reinforcement bars and subsequent theft by unidentified individuals.

Despite the damage, the GHA assured the public that the underpass remains structurally stable and safe for use.

The Authority also announced that repair works will soon be initiated to halt any further deterioration of the structure.

It reminded the public that interfering with public infrastructure is a criminal offense under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180), and urged citizens to report suspicious behavior to the nearest police station or the GHA’s Public Affairs Division.

“Protecting our roads is a shared responsibility,” the statement concluded.
