In a visionary initiative to promote job creation and unlock Ghana’s creative potential, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has welcomed U.S. philanthropist Dr. Marie Lemelle and Hollywood actor Dr. Hassan Rasheed—best known for his role in Black Panther—for strategic talks on arts-driven development in the constituency.
The collaboration aims to establish one of Africa’s largest movie studios in Abuakwa South, a project set to transform the local economy by providing employment opportunities, nurturing creative talent, and contributing to Ghana’s national development.

During their visit, the delegation toured the historic Ofori Panin Palace, immersing themselves in the cultural heritage of the Akyem Abuakwa state. The visit served as both a symbolic reconnection with Africa and a practical step toward building partnerships that empower young people through the creative arts.
Dr. Marie Lemelle reaffirmed her strong commitment to supporting the arts sector in Abuakwa South, revealing that plans for the studio are well underway. She noted the proposed creative hub will provide training in key areas such as costuming, sound design, and video engineering to equip local practitioners to meet global standards.
“Our goal is to place Ghana and Africa at the forefront of the global creative arts scene,” Dr. Lemelle said, “while addressing youth unemployment and spurring economic growth.”
Dr. Hassan Rasheed described the experience as a deeply emotional return to his cultural roots and encouraged fellow diasporans to reconnect and contribute to local development. He pledged his continued support to attract global attention and investment to Ghana’s creative economy.
Dr. Agyemang lauded the collaboration as a groundbreaking partnership that could redefine Abuakwa South’s future. He emphasized the constituency’s strategic location between Accra and Kumasi and assured that his office will facilitate land acquisition and provide full support to fast-track the initiative.
