Ghana Police Arrest Man With Weapons and Ammunition Near Asankare Barrier

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 25-year-old man, Yussif Mohammed, in possession of a cache of weapons, ammunition, and military-style gear near the Asankare Police barrier in the Ashanti Region.

The arrest was carried out on Wednesday, May 8, by the Konongo Divisional Police Command with the help of local residents. The suspect was apprehended after he claimed ownership of a backpack that had fallen from an Accra-bound bus traveling from Kumasi. Upon inspection of the bag, police recovered the following items:

In a statement, the police confirmed that investigations are underway and that the suspect will soon be arraigned before court.

Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, ACP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, reiterated the police’s dedication to combating crime in the region.

“We have intensified operations to rid our communities of criminals and miscreants to ensure residents can go about their lives safely and peacefully,” he stated.

ACP Nyaaba also encouraged the public to collaborate with the police by sharing timely information to support ongoing security efforts.
