  • Residents had already fled the area due to repeated attacks

At least 12 houses were set ablaze last night by unidentified attackers in the Gumyoko community, located in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

The incident is suspected to be a continuation of the protracted chieftaincy dispute in nearby Bawku. Security sources told JoyNews that this attack follows similar incidents three days prior, raising the total number of homes destroyed to more than 20.

Sources also indicated that residents had vacated the Gumyoko area nearly a month ago due to ongoing violence. The perpetrators are believed to have exploited the absence of residents to carry out the arson, destroying homes and other properties.

No suspects have been apprehended as of yet.
