Multiple Fatalities in Separate Road Accidents at Assin Bresiako and Akyem Asafo

A deadly head-on collision between a Yutong bus and a tipper truck has resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left several others injured at Assin Bresiako in the Assin North District of the Central Region.

The accident occurred on Monday, May 12, involving a Yutong bus with registration number GT 5136-11, traveling from Cape Coast to Kumasi, and a tipper truck with registration number BA 2267-14, heading from Kumasi toward Assin Fosu. According to eyewitnesses speaking to Radio Fosu and Adom News, the Yutong bus veered into the opposite lane while attempting to overtake, leading to a head-on collision with the oncoming truck.

Witness reports indicate that the bus’s steering wheel allegedly locked during the overtaking attempt, causing the fatal crash. Although police are yet to issue an official statement, eyewitnesses confirmed that four passengers died on the spot, with many others sustaining injuries and being transported to nearby health facilities for treatment.

Elisha Sarpong, Assembly Member for the Assin Bresiako Electoral Area, confirmed the crash, noting that the bus had just departed Cape Coast en route to Kumasi. He also cited the bus driver’s mate, who claimed the steering wheel malfunctioned mid-overtake. Among the deceased is one of the vehicle drivers.

In a separate incident on the same day, three people died and two others were injured in a road crash at Akyem Asafo on the Kumasi–Accra highway.
