On Friday, May 9, 2025, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, presented renowned musician Kofi Kinaata with the prestigious ‘Youth in Entertainment Award’ during a special event at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Kinaata was recognized for his impactful and socially conscious music, which consistently addresses key societal issues and resonates deeply with the public. His thoughtful lyrics have positioned him as a powerful voice for positive change. Otumfuo had earlier praised Kinaata’s song Susuka as being “full of wisdom” during the Ghana Bar Association’s General Conference in September 2024.
The honour comes on the eve of the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, where Kinaata is a top contender with nominations in several major categories, including Best Highlife Artiste, Best Highlife Song, Best Music Video, Songwriter, Record, and Album/EP of the Year.
The award is part of the Otumfuo Millennium Excellence Awards, an initiative from the Manhyia Palace that recognizes individuals making outstanding contributions to national development, especially those aiding the disadvantaged, such as the poor, widows, and orphans.
Other notable recipients of the Lifetime Africa Achievement Prize at the event included Dr. Osei Kwame Despite (Despite Group), Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong (Special Ice Water), and Dr. Nick Danso (Ghana Link Network Services).
Former President John Mahama attended the ceremony as the Special Guest of Honour.
