GNFS Explains Fire Report Fees as Support for Operations, Not Profit

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has explained that fire investigation reports issued after incidents in markets or public facilities are provided for a fee—not for profit, but to support operational costs and improve public safety.

ADO 1 Derrick Elorm Adzokpa from the GNFS Public Relations Department stated during an appearance on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV (Friday, May 9) that although the GNFS routinely investigates fire outbreaks, official reports are only released upon formal request and payment of a processing fee.

He emphasized that the fee—less than GHS 150—helps generate internal revenue to supplement government funding.

“After completing our investigations, we engage market leaders and management, then release the report upon request for a small fee,” Adzokpa said. “This is our way of generating funds to continue supporting the public through improved service delivery.”

The clarification comes amid growing public concern over recent market fires, with the GNFS underscoring the importance of such reports in identifying causes and preventing future incidents.
