Michael Kpakpo Allotey has been unanimously confirmed as the new Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) following a Special General Assembly Meeting held Tuesday at the Accra City Hall.

Allotey secured all 30 valid votes cast—representing a full 100%—in an election conducted by the Electoral Commission, exceeding the two-thirds majority required under Section 20 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo, who supervised the voting, urged Assembly Members to fulfill their constitutional duties by endorsing the President’s nominee. She emphasized the strategic importance of Accra as the region’s hub and cautioned against letting politics obstruct progress.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Allotey thanked God and President John Dramani Mahama for the appointment, calling it a great honor for a “young man from North Kaneshie.” He pledged to build on the legacy of his predecessors, seek guidance when needed, and strive for excellence.

“We are going to restart Accra—starting now,” he declared, echoing the President’s vision and adding, “what God cannot do does not exist.”

Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, Greater Accra’s Council of State representative and Chair of the Economic and Social Development Committee, encouraged the new Mayor to lead boldly and tackle critical urban challenges—including sanitation, housing, congestion, and unemployment—with vision, empathy, and discipline.

Mr. Allotey brings over a decade of experience as an entrepreneur and logistics expert, with a track record in real estate, petroleum, and transport. Prior to his appointment, he was CEO of Our God Is Good Real Estate, which delivered over 200 affordable housing units in peri-urban Accra. He has also held leadership roles in companies such as KYG Consultancy, EXOLUBE, and DIMD Ghana, and served as Director of Operations for Okaikwei South Constituency under the NDC.

The confirmation ceremony was marked by celebration and attended by Assembly Members, traditional authorities, government officials, political party representatives, and local residents.
