The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) chapter of the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) has called off its strike, effective May 5, 2025. This follows an indefinite strike declared on April 30, 2025, due to the exclusion of union members from KNUST’s newly inaugurated governing council.

At a press conference on May 5, TEWU-GH Chairman Charles Arthur announced that both the local and national union executives held productive discussions with the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). Arthur confirmed that the Director-General had instructed Vice-Chancellors of public universities to address the union’s concerns.

“As a result of these engagements, we have decided to suspend the strike today, May 5, 2025. We urge all our members to return to work and resume their duties,” Arthur stated.
