Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has expressed his unwavering determination to help bring lasting peace to Bawku and its surrounding areas, despite setbacks in resolving the long-standing conflict.
Following delays in addressing the protracted Bawku dispute, which were largely due to complexities surrounding the chieftaincy issue, the Asantehene remains optimistic. He believes recent mediation efforts with the feuding factions will lead to peace.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace, emphasizing the importance of peace for development.
“We need peace for progress. My responsibility, along with the traditional leadership, is to ensure peace prevails everywhere. We must resolve conflicts to enable the government to do its work effectively,” he stated.
He further highlighted the ongoing efforts to resolve communal tensions in the Bawku area, noting that measures are being taken to ensure long-term peace.
