Asenso-Boakye Refutes Claims of Neglect in Suzzy’s Case

Story Highlights
  • MP denies abandoning visually impaired student, Suzzy Penamang
  • Confirms full medical support and ongoing help with foreign treatment
  • MP urges public to avoid spreading unverified information

Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has addressed recent claims that he abandoned Suzzy Penamang—the student who lost her sight following a school shooting incident.

In a detailed response, Asenso-Boakye outlined the extensive support he has provided since the tragedy. He said he acted swiftly after learning of the incident and secured direct medical oversight for Suzzy from the CEO of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah. He also confirmed that all medical expenses at the facility were fully covered under his arrangements.

After assessments revealed Suzzy would need advanced treatment abroad, the MP said he began helping the family with travel documentation. He also involved Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who is ready to assist once medical documentation is submitted.

This clarification comes after a viral video alleged no support had been offered to Suzzy’s family. Asenso-Boakye dismissed the claim, stating the woman in the video is unknown to the family—something confirmed by Suzzy’s brother, Clement, who has been in regular contact with the MP.

He urged the public to be cautious when discussing sensitive matters involving children and stressed his ongoing commitment to Suzzy’s care and well-being.
