Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, has criticised recent protests over the nomination of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), stating that most of the unrest is fueled by speculation rather than confirmed appointments.
Speaking at a meeting with Christian religious leaders in Accra on April 19, the Minister urged the public to be patient and avoid unnecessary demonstrations, especially in areas where nominations haven’t yet been announced. He likened the protests to students complaining about failing an exam before results are even released.
He clarified that his role in the nomination process is complete and final decisions lie solely with the President. Instead of protesting, he encouraged citizens to commend the President for swiftly forming key government structures.
The engagement formed part of broader efforts to involve faith-based organisations in national initiatives like the National Sanitation Day (NSD).
